CONVENTION A connects actuarial expertise across Asia and beyond

March 27, 2026

On Tuesday, actuview and the EAA – European Actuarial Academy welcomed the international actuarial community to CONVENTION A | ASIA, the latest edition of the global online event series under the theme “Connecting Knowledge.” Following the international debut in 2022 as well as the Europe and Africa editions in 2024 and 2025 respectively, this year’s event placed a special spotlight on the Asian continent and its diverse actuarial markets. Held fully online, the event once again created an open space for all engaged partner associations and institutions to exchange across borders and practice areas. It showed how strongly the profession values international dialogue and shared learning.

The response was impressive: more than 1,000 experts from 78 countries signed up for the event, and more than 700 attendees either joined live or watched the recordings already in the three days since the event. The program was designed by the actuarial associations from India, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka; the global umbrella organization IAA; the regionally active associations CAS, IFoA, SANA, and SOA; as well as GAIN, with each contributing a 90-minute session reflecting its own expertise and activities. At the heart of CONVENTION A | ASIA was a broad and varied agenda combining two central plenary sessions with partner-hosted parallel programs. This structure allowed participants to explore both regional developments and wider actuarial trends in one shared event environment.

A particular highlight of the day was the pair of central plenary sessions, “Growth in Asia: The Strategic Role of Actuaries” and “The AI Enabled Actuary.” Together, they captured two themes that are highly relevant to the profession today: the dynamic development of Asian insurance markets and the growing importance of artificial intelligence for actuarial education, practice, and innovation. Featured speakers included Joanne Tan (SAS), Sunil Sharma (RGA India), Paul Kartono (SAI), Daniel Lin (Taiping Life), Bernhard Wong (UNSW), Michael Callan (Australian Institute), and Wei Chyin Tan (IAA).

“As hosts of CONVENTION A | ASIA, we are proud to have established a lively platform that regularly offers high-quality, highly relevant content for actuarial communities around the globe and brings together diverse perspectives from a broad range of stakeholders,” said Henning Wergen, Managing Director of EAA. Martin Oymanns, Managing Director of actuview, added, “The strong response from both our partners and more than 1,000 individual experts to CONVENTION A | ASIA clearly highlights the dynamism and developments across the Asian continent.” They concluded, “For us, this is a strong sign that formats like CONVENTION A continue to meet a real need in the profession.”

The recordings of CONVENTION A | ASIA will soon be exclusively available here on actuview.
