From 7–9 October, delegates and volunteers of the Actuarial Association of Europe (AAE), which represents around 30,000 actuaries across Europe, came together in Málaga for the 49th AAE Annual Meeting, hosted by the Instituto de Actuarios Españoles. Alongside meetings of the AAE committees and other bodies, the three-day gathering concluded on Friday with the 54th General Assembly, bringing representatives of the AAE’s member associations together to discuss the organization and its future direction.

A key outcome of this year’s General Assembly was the election of Hartwig Sorger (Austria) as the new Chairperson of the Actuarial Association of Europe, succeeding Matthias Pillaudin (France). Sorger, who has served on the AAE Board since 2023 and as Treasurer since 2024, will lead the association until October 2027, with a focus on strong governance and business continuity, as well as strengthening relations with European institutions, promoting professionalism, and fostering the European actuarial community.
Further appointments include Lauri Saraste (Finland) as Vice-Chairperson and Christophe Heck (Switzerland) as Treasurer. Marcin Krzykowski (Poland) and Salvatore Forte (Italy) were elected to the AAE Board, while Falco Valkenburg (the Netherlands) and Jacek Skwierczynski (Poland) joined the Nominations Panel.
