September 7, 2026

The latest issue of The European Actuary (No. 47 – September 2026) is now available, bringing together perspectives on some of the key developments shaping the actuarial profession today. From diversity and inclusive insurance to artificial intelligence, emerging liabilities, and new approaches to risk transfer, the new edition offers insights from experts across the European actuarial community.

Five highlights from the new issue:

  • A Diverse Future is a Stronger Future – In the issue’s featured interview, Kirsten Sasady explores diversity within the actuarial profession and why different perspectives and backgrounds are important for its future. The interview is also available to watch on actuview.
  • AI in Portfolio Migration: What Works Today and What Comes Next – Bartlomiej Maciaga, Arno Rasch, and Sven Grönewäller examine the current potential of AI in portfolio migration and look ahead to where the technology could take the industry next.
  • Parametric Insurance Beyond Indemnity – Arno Gabriel and Cole Mayer take a closer look at parametric insurance and its potential beyond traditional indemnity-based approaches.
  • Understanding Inclusive Insurance Markets: A Broader Perspective – Christophe Heck explores inclusive insurance markets and the wider considerations involved in extending insurance protection to underserved groups.
  • Forever Chemicals, Long-Tail Liabilities – Yohan Botbol examines why emerging contaminants are becoming an actuarial challenge and what long-tail liabilities associated with so-called “forever chemicals” could mean for the profession.

And there is much more to discover: the issue also covers self-insurance and pooled schemes, inclusion and access, and the question of where actuaries acquire the AI competencies they increasingly need. Gábor Hanák examines a potential second-order effect of AI on professional succession, while Birgit Kaiser reflects on why diversity is about more than numbers.
