“Volunteering within the member associations and the IAA has been one of the most fruitful and enjoyable parts of my career thus far. Meeting the IACA team and IAA staff at the 2014 ICA broadened my service to the profession from ASSA and the IFOA to a more global community across all continents – and this has made all the difference in my personal and professional journey. I am immensely grateful to them for how warmly they welcomed me (I can still remember our first encounters to this day), gave me opportunities to serve and ultimately lead. And I have made several wonderful friends in the process.

“After 16 years of volunteering across several member associations, domains and functions, I can honestly say that this has been both fulfilling and challenging, in the best way possible. One of the reasons I initially wanted to volunteer and continue to do so is because I genuinely believe (and have experienced) that actuaries have a lot more to contribute to society than the work we are traditionally known for. And that is why I have always been keen to speak at events over the years – to share the work I have done, and initiate discussions on what more we can do to expand the impact of our knowledge and skillset. And maybe, once in a while, encourage and inspire someone else to take the leap into unfamiliar territory.”
