At its recent Autumn Meeting, the German Association of Actuaries (DAV) used its internal discussion format to examine the current state of developments around Artificial Intelligence (AI) and to present key measures aimed at future-proofing the actuarial profession.
In a keynote followed by a discussion, Dr. Robert Peters, Head of Foresight at the Institute for Innovation and Technology in Berlin (watch the recording with English subtitles here), argued that the actuarial profession will change only marginally due to AI—while AI will become an indispensable tool in the actuarial toolkit. He also emphasized that the insurance industry is in an excellent position to ensure data integrity and leverage AI in a meaningful and productivity-enhancing way. The keynote (in German with English subtitles) is now available on actuview.
Afterwards, the DAV presented the innovations that will make both future and current members “Fit for AI” starting in 2026:
- New Examination Regulations from January 1, 2026: The mandatory core syllabus will be modernized and expanded to include the new subject “Data Science and Artificial Intelligence,” reflecting the growing importance of this field for actuaries.
- Continuing Education for Experienced Members: Since AI is also highly relevant for seasoned professionals, the DAV will offer a specially designed training program starting in 2026. The two-day web sessions will be held monthly and enable members to build practical AI skills for actuarial work. This initiative aligns with the EU AI Act, which requires all individuals working with AI to possess the necessary competencies. Participants will receive confirmation of their AI competence for actuarial use cases in insurance.
