Former assistant to Michel Foucault at the Collège de France, François Ewald created the Association for the Michel Foucault Centre. He holds a PhD from the Institut d'études politiques de Paris and has led a career as a researcher at the Collège de France and the CNRS. His work focuses in particular on risk analysis. He is an honorary professor at the Conservatoire national des arts et métiers (chair of insurance) where he has directed the École nationale d'assurances and chairs the scientific council of the Insurance University. He is also a member of the editorial board of the magazine Risques, of which he is one of the founders.
