It is estimated that by 2050, nearly 70% of the world’s population will live in cities. Anticipated benefits of city life include cultural diversity, improved infrastructure, easier access to cutting-edge technology, jobs, and public health services. In this video, Georgiana Pascutiu, M.D., RGA’s Medical Director, Global Medical Support, discusses these benefits, as well as the hazards of living in an urban environment, including outbreaks of disease, and social isolation resulting in stress-related illnesses, alcohol and drug dependency, and unhealthy diets.
